Clásica de San Sebastián 2025: Route

Saturday 1 August - Saturday, 1 August – The Clásica San Sebastián covers 221.1 kilometres and features 4,150 metres of elevation gain. The final of seven climbs is 2.1 kilometres long and averages 10.1%, before the riders plunge down a 5-kilometre descent into San Sebastián. The road flattens out over the final 3 kilometres.

After a flat to gently rolling opening section, the first climb comes after just over 50 kilometres in the shape of the Kalbario: 2.2 kilometres at 8%. It does not take long for the Azkarate to add 4.2 kilometres at 7.3%. With that, the tone is set, and a few kilometres after the descent, the Urraki climbs for 8.6 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.9%. The riders have covered 90.8 kilometres by the time they reach the summit.

After plunging down from the Urraki, the riders tackle the Alkiza – 4.4 kilometres at 6.2% – and 30 kilometres later they pass through San Sebastián for the first time. Soon afterwards, on the other side of the city, the Jaizkibel awaits. It rises for 7.9 kilometres at 5.6%, with the toughest section coming at the start.

Around 7 kilometres after the descent, the Erlaitz provides a stern test ahead of the finale. The brutal 3.8-kilometre climb averages 10.6%, and reaching the top does not mean the climbing is over, as the road continues gently uphill for another 4 kilometres.

The riders then descend into a flat section. They pass through San Sebastián once again, before the pièce de résistance awaits on the eastern side of the city: the Murgil-Tontorra. It is only 2.1 kilometres long, but averages a brutal 10.1%. The second half is by far the toughest.

After a virtually flat kilometre at the top, the riders descend for 4 kilometres before tackling the final 3 kilometres on flat roads to the finish.

Following his outstanding Tour de France, three-time winner Remco Evenepoel is back in the Basque Country. He was absent from the past two editions, which were won by Marc Hirschi and Giulio Ciccone. Evenepoel is a joint record holder, so one more victory would make him the most successful rider in Clásica de San Sebastián history.

Five former winners are on the start list: Bauke Mollema (2016), Julian Alaphilippe (2018), Remco Evenepoel (2019, 2022, 2023), Marc Hirschi (2024) and Giulio Ciccone (2025).

The Clásica San Sebastián starts at 11:05 and is expected to finish around 16:45.
